Marking Punctuations by Paul Novak

Paul Novak writes music that is lyrical but fragmented, exploring the subtleties of instrumental color and drawing influence from literature, art, and poetry. He has been selected as the recipient of numerous national awards, most recently from the Frost Competition, Texas Young Composer’s Competition, Tribeca New Music, Young Composer’s Challenge, and YoungArts Foundation, and has participated in festivals including the first-ever Composer Apprenticeship with NYO-USA, Bowdoin Festival, fresh inc festival, Atlantic Music Festival, BUTI, and more. Originally from Reno, NV, Novak is an undergraduate student at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where he has studied with Pierre Jalbert, Anthony Brandt, and Karim Al-Zand. Upcoming dates in Fall 2018 include the Austin Symphony’s performance of his orchestral work on buoyancy and the Chicago Ensemble’s performance of his flute/piano duo 3 Night Pieces.

 "Autumn Nights for String Quartet" by Jarron Carlson.

 

 

 

Jarron Carlson is an 18 year old composer and pianist. Since he was very young, Jarron knew he had a deep love for creating. Around the time he was 9 years old, he began piano lessons, quickly fell in love with music and true to his passion for creating, grew fond of writing his own compositions. Currently a student at the Gifted Music School Conservatory and the American International School of Utah, he participates in choir, orchestra, and chamber music ensembles. His original pieces have been performed in concert and recording by his school Chamber Singers, Symphonic Chorale, Advanced Vocal Double Quartet and chamber ensembles from the Gifted Music School. Currently, Jarron studies composition privately with Ms. Erica Glenn and piano with Dr. Koji Attwood.
